Well it's a funny old business with the relationship between food, weight, exercise, our mind, body and emotions. All these parts are intimately connected and keeping the balance is so important and yet is often illusive. I thought I would put down some helpful clues!
Clue one
When your body is complaining about a food it does not like then you may feel slightly drowsy and so the mind can be a little confused, which takes us out of emotional balance. Oh dear then reaching for something that will soothe ourselves - the food that was the likely cause of the problem in the first place - and the cycle starts again . Only this time it's much worse and before we know it we weigh more, eat more, exercise less and feel - well let's face it - rubbish.
Clue two
Do something different. Where to start... loads of places. If this is a regular thing - then keep a food diary - it's the only way to slice through the numbness of the mind - in the moment there is no way we can logically work out what set things off. (Ok I know that when you have eaten really well all week and go out for a few pints and a curry it's not too hard to work it out)
A food diary not only helps you keep on track - it helps you hunt down the hidden triggers that cause weight gain. When we set ourselves a goal writing it down doubles the chances of achieving it and keeping a food diary doubles our chances of success too according to a study in 2008.
