“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” — Walt Disney

As a coach, you may find your clients say they want to be motivated, but they lack any indication that they actually are. Not everyone is easily motivated. Figuring out how to help motivate your clients can be tricky, so let us help!

In this post we’ll give you three great tips to help your clients find their motivation.

  1. Perform This NLP Mind Power Technique with Your Client. Ask your client to think of the most important goal they’ve ever set for themselves — the goal that got them out of bed in the morning, energised, and dedicated enough to stick with it, no matter what.  Have them recall how they felt — what their emotions were like, what their thoughts were like, what their body felt like — until they have a crystal clear image of what motivation looks like for them.  As they do, have them touch a spot on their body, perhaps their  knuckle or earlobe.  When they need to access their inner motivating power, let them know that they can touch their knuckle or earlobe  and it will help them re-call it. Many times, a lack of motivation comes from a sense of overwhelm or confusion about what to do next.  Have your clients identify their larger objective, and then break it up into smaller, manageable chunks of action. Make sure your clients physically document these steps down. A thought is just that – a thought. When you put thoughts paper and then to action, they become realised.Part of the planning stage is the fail-safe strategy stage. Without a strategy to fall back on, your clients may find it hard to reach goals — because they get easily discouraged in the face of faltering. Everyone falters at one point in time or another, so help your clients implement strategies for when they feel helpless or as though their actions aren’t working as quickly as they’d like.
  2. Help your client imagine a more successful version of themselves. You see a successful person waiting to burst out of the client you mentor, right? Then help them see that same successful person! Remind them to focus on the successes in their life. Constantly focusing on the positive can only breed future success.
